I’ve been reading through a lot of posts and advice about the postpartum period, and it seems like everyone – doctors, nurses, people on here – treats the “six-week checkup” as some kind of magic milestone when everything is supposed to be normal again. But honestly, does that make sense?
From what I’ve seen (and personally experienced), recovery after giving birth is all over the place: physical, emotional, hormonal… And yet, as soon as six weeks hit, it’s like everyone assumes all issues should be resolved or dismissed as “just new mom stuff” if they’re not.
Is there any real scientific basis for this six-week timeline, or is it just convenient tradition? Has anyone actually gotten substantial postpartum support after that initial window? Should we be pushing for ongoing, more individualized care instead of this one-size-fits-all model? I’d love to hear from anyone who had their concerns taken seriously – or not – after that six-week mark.
